A pole barn, to be exact.

Well, actually Mr. Tom and his crew built our barn, but we told him what to build. Shane decided what he wanted and I did a lot of saying, “Okay, that’s fine,” and, “I like this color better than that one.”

I totally learned something while it was being built. Apparently, a pole barn is different from a “barn” barn in a couple of ways. 1) a pole barn goes up fast! 2) a pole barn is built with wooden poles and beams instead of metal ones, and most interestingly (to me, at least) 3) some pole barns don’t have concrete floors, so the concrete is poured after the barn is constructed (that’s crazy)!

One of my favorite parts of the barn is the weathervane on top of the coupola.

Rather than a rooster weathervane, we found one with a flying great blue heron. Often we spot Blue Herons and Yellow Crowned Night Herons in our pond, so this weathervane was a perfect choice.
